Craft-led diagnostics

Vector Quartz Consulting

We profile slow applications, trace latency to concrete code paths, and scope fixes you can ship—technical assessments, advisory sessions, and bounded implementation work for teams in Gauteng and remote engagements across South Africa.

Measure before you rewrite

Performance work starts with reproducible baselines: request traces, heap snapshots, and database plans captured under realistic load. We document what the runtime is doing—not what slide decks assume—so advisory sessions stay anchored in evidence.

When a bottleneck sits in ORM chatter, serial GC pauses, or an N+1 query pattern, we name the layer and the cost in plain language. Scoped implementation engagements follow only after you approve the written scope and fee.

Technical assessment

Fixed-scope review of hotspots, dependency graphs, and deployment topology. You receive a written findings memo with ranked remediation options—no obligation to continue.

Advisory sessions

Working blocks with your engineers while flame graphs and traces are on screen. We coach on sampling strategy, safe load tests, and how to avoid optimising the wrong tier.

Scoped implementation

When a change is well bounded—index additions, caching boundaries, batching refactors—we implement under a signed scope. Fees and milestones are agreed after inquiry, never pre-bundled as anonymous packages.

“Optimisation is craft when every millisecond you reclaim can be traced to a line of code someone can maintain.”

Profiling sessions that respect production constraints

We configure sampling so it is safe for live traffic, capture representative payloads, and compare builds with the same harness. Your team keeps access to raw artefacts; we do not depend on proprietary dashboards you cannot export.

For JVM, .NET, Node, and common data stores we align on tooling your operators already approve. When a runtime lacks mature tracers, we document gaps instead of improvising unauditable hooks.

Describe your latency symptoms and we will suggest an assessment shape before quoting.

FAQ for engineering leads

Do you take over our entire platform?

No. Engagements are assessments, advisory blocks, or narrowly scoped implementation. We are not a managed hosting provider and we do not sell retainer hours without a written scope.

Can you work with our Pretoria office?

Yes. We are based at 18,Church Street, Pretoria, and can meet on site when access and security policies allow. Remote profiling with shared screen sessions is equally common.

How are fees set?

After you submit an inquiry we clarify objectives, environments, and risk. Scope and fees are confirmed in writing before billable work begins; starting figures are never implied on this site.

What do you need on day one?

Read access to staging or a load-test environment, representative traffic patterns, and a contact who can approve sampling windows. We list any additional credentials in the assessment plan.
